Two local ponies rescued from slaughterhouse become champions

Kemptville can now boast two of the best ponies in Canada. Flashback and Tyrone were heading to the slaughterhouse before being rescued by Turnout Stables.

Flash placed third overall at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. Tyrone won reserve champion in the small pony category. The Royal was held in November.

Owner Debbie Williams says a lot of the horses you find at the sale barn are in a bad situation. She says some of them end up going there because of financial reasons, like when owners can’t afford to keep them anymore.

Williams says 95 per cent of the horses at the sale barn end up at the slaughterhouse.

William’s daughter Danielle Sayer rode both ponies at the Royal. She says Flash is 13-years-old, just like her. Sayer says he’s a sporadic pony who does what he wants, but is very playful.

She says Tyrone is more manageable and she can do anything with him.
