The new council is making some changes. First on the agenda is moving meetings to Tuesday nights in 2019. Council and Committee of the Whole meetings are currently held Monday.
Deputy Mayor Jim McManaman says the day change follows council’s plan to host monthly town hall meetings. He says council decided there will be two committee meetings, one council meeting and one town hall each month.
The current structure is two committee and two council meetings per month. Reports are brought forward by staff at committee and passed at council.
McManaman says the idea is that after the town hall, members of council will be able to bring ideas forward at committee meetings. He says council members will have two sessions to discuss these ideas before bringing resolutions to the council table.
McManaman says moving meetings to Tuesday also allows for an extra day to discuss reports with staff.
