Kemptville residents scammed out of thousands of dollars

The OPP is issuing a warning to the public after two people in Kemptville were defrauded. The individuals lost thousands of dollars in a new telephone scam.

The victims get a phone call from someone posing as a bank employee asking for help to identify a mole at the bank. The scammer tells the victim to purchase iTunes gift cards and transfer money through Western Union. They will call multiple times and even refer people to a website.

The OPP says people should never give out personal financial details or information over the phone. Don’t believe callers who say they are from your bank or credit card companies.

Always go to your bank in person if you have a concern. The OPP says people need to educate themselves about banking practices.
