Woman raising money for mental health after losing friend to suicide

Mike Lalande will be remembered for his smile, wit and sense of humour, according to his obituary. The Kemptville native took his own life on November 28. He was 26-years-old.

Childhood friend Kodi Jones is raising money for Lanark, Leeds and Grenville Addictions and Mental Health in Mike’s memory. Kodi’s Birthday Fundraiser on Facebook has brought in over $5,100 so far. Every dollar will go to the charity.

Jones says it’s come to a point where the stigma surrounding mental health issues needs to be gone. She says young people need to grow up in this area knowing they can talk about things they are struggling with.

The fundraiser launched last week and runs until December 23.

Jones says the donations will touch many people, even if it’s just a few dollars. She says mental health is something that impacts everyone, whether you’ve lost someone or you’re the one struggling – mental health doesn’t discriminate.

Mike’s family is also planning on putting together fundraising events in his memory.
