Resident asks council for compensation after six years of drainage issues

Stonehaven subdivision resident Richard Mclean says he has been plagued with drainage issues since buying his home in 2013. He gave a deputation during Committee of the Whole last night.

Mclean says he has had numerous conversations with municipal staff about the water sitting on his property. He says there are always promises made to resolve the issue during the next construction season but it never comes to fruition.

Mclean says he is building a second home and will be left carrying the cost of two houses because his property in North Grenville is not sellable. He asked to be compensated by the municipality.

Director of Public Works Karen Dunlop says a seven step process has been put in place to resolve the issue. Schouten, the developer, is required to meet all the deadlines in the process.

Dunlop says a third party reviewer is involved. She says the municipality considered taking over the subdivision, but that would mean taking on all liability.

CAO Brian Carré says if a single deadline is missed, he will recommend to council that the municipality take over the subdivision and fix the problem using securities put up by the developer.
