Andrewsville Bridge to close from December 1 to April 1

Repairs are being done to the Andrewsville Bridge. Lanark County, along with the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, are replacing all the stringers on the bridge. The work is estimated to cost about $80,000 – split equally between the two counties.

The bridge will close from December 1 to April 1 annually starting this year.

Lanark County Director of Public Works Terry McCann says salt being tracked onto the bridge during the winter months is contributing to its deterioration.

The bridge has a low traffic count of about 200 vehicles per day.

McCann says the counties committed $60,000 each for bridge repairs to keep it open for the next 12 years.

Neither county is willing to put up dollars to replace the bridge, which will cost an estimated $3 million. The counties are linked by bridges in Merrickville and Burritts Rapids.
