Waterfront Trail to be renamed in honour of Terry Butler

The Waterfront Trail in Kemptville is getting a new name. The trail, which runs from Clothier Street East to Prescott Street, will be named in honour of the late Terry Butler. The recommendation was passed at the Committee of the Whole meeting last night.

Clerk Cahl Pominville says the Waterfront Trail was a idea that Butler was passionate about. He says Butler’s vision was to create a boardwalk from downtown Kemptville to the Ferguson Forest trails.

Butler served as North Grenville Councillor for 11 years. He passed away in 2017.

Deputy Mayor Barb Tobin says it’s a remarkable tribute to someone who had such a passion for downtown and the community in general. Tobin says she can’t think of anyone more deserving.

The renaming will take place sometime in 2019. It was supported by the Old Town Kemptville BIA and Butler’s family.
