Rideau Lakes trail promoter wins Bill Thake Memorial Award

The Bill Thake Memorial Award was presented at the Economic Development Summit. The event was held Friday in Kemptville. Doug Bond, heritage mapmaker and Rideau Lakes trail promoter, took home the award.

Bond is a retired teacher and long-time resident of the Township of Rideau Lakes. He has spent decades bringing travellers to the area by promoting natural trails, creating driving and boating tours.

The award was presented by Warden Robin Jones, Marlene Thake (Bill’s widow) and inaugural award recipient Glenn Allen.

Jones says community leaders are important to the vitality of Leeds and Grenville.

A total of 32 men and women have been nominated for the award over the past eight years. It has been handed out to 11 people, including four from North Grenville.
