Tweed CEO Bruce Linton speaks at Economic Development Summit

It was a full house for the 10th annual Leeds Grenville Economic Development Summit. The event was held today at the North Grenville Municipal Centre. About 230 people attended the event, which has been sold-out for three years running.

The summit kicked off with a video tribute to Gord Brown, who passed away in May. The tribute was met with a standing ovation.

Minister of Municipal Affairs & Housing Steve Clark talked about the 2018 Ontario Economic Outlook and Fiscal Review.

Tweed Chairman and Co-CEO Bruce Linton took the stage to talk about how far the company has come since setting up shop in Smiths Falls five years ago.

Linton says typically the headline doesn’t read ‘innovation initiated in Canada to lead the world,’ but when it comes to cannabis it does.

He says Tweed controls about 30 to 50 per cent of the cannabis market share depending on the province. Tweed has grown from a 168,000 sq. ft. facility in Smiths Falls to nearly 6 million sq. ft. of assets.

Linton says the provincial government announced yesterday that 250 cannabis stores would be opening soon.

LeBoat Managing Director Cheryl Brown also spoke at the event. The Bill Thake Memorial Award was presented to Doug Bond for his work promoting trails in Rideau Lakes.
