Theatre Company Agrees to Cover Hydro Costs When Using Former Town Hall

The Kemptville Youth Musical Theatre Company has agreed to cover the hydro costs at the former Oxford Mills Town Hall.

Director of Parks and Recreation Mark Guy gave a report to Council about the company’s lease agreement for the facility. He says the company approached the parks and recreation department to use the main floor area. Guy says it would be used for storing costumes and props as they do not have adequate storing at this time. He adds the facility is currently being used as a storage space.

The municipality is not charging them to use the facility, but they want the heat on for when they are in the building. The municipality shut off the heat and water to the building in 2015 because heat alone was costing $12,000 per year.

The company will only be turning it on for a few hours a week. Guy finished by saying he feels it’s a way for the municipality to support a long standing community organization.
