CP Holiday Train Stopping In Merrickville

The Canadian Pacific (CP) Holiday Train will be in Merrickville on Wednesday, November 28th.

It will stop at around 4:45 that eveningĀ at the East Broadway and County Road two tracks. The train raises food, money and awareness for food banks and hunger issues. The event is free to attend and the proceeds raised will be going to The Merrickville Emergency Food Cupboard a part of the South Grenville Food Bank in Prescott, Rideau Community Health Services and House of Lazarus in Mountain.Ā Joanne McIntyre is a Community Health Worker and says the CP Holiday Train is looking for healthy food donations for the food banks.

“All of the food that comes in is divided between the three food banks and any money raised that night is divided equally as well.”

McIntyre says this is the 20th year the CP Holiday Train is running. Over those years, the program has raised over 14.5-million dollars and 4.3-million pounds of food altogether. Almost 25,000-pounds of food has been collected and shared locally. McIntyre says food that is always needed at food banks are peanut butter and healthy proteins like tuna, salmon and beans.
