1 in 4 people smoke pot in Leeds, Grenville and Lanark: Health Unit

The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit is reminding people about the dangers of smoking cannabis. The drug will become legal across Canada on Wednesday.

According to the health unit, a recent survey showed 23 per cent of Leeds, Grenville and Lanark residents aged 15 and older reported using cannabis in the last 12 months.

Registered Nurse Kimberley Marshall says “when making informed decisions about personal use of substances, it is important to know the facts.”

According to the health unit, youth are particularly vulnerable. Regular cannabis use affects brain development up to the age of between 25 and 30. It can also affect the growth and development of babies. The chemicals released by cannabis can get into breastmilk.
