Blood Donor Clinic in honour of Dustin Littau set for Monday

Canadian Blood Services is holding a blood donor clinic in honour of Dustin Littau. The clinic is set for Monday at the W.B. George Centre in Kemptville.

It runs from 1:30 to 4:00pm and again from 5:00 to 7:30pm. Littau passed away on July 19, 2017 after battling MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome) and HLH (Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis).

Dustin’s mother Judy Littau says he needed 150 units of blood products in just 11 weeks and a lot of them were platelets. She says it takes between three and four donors to make a bag of platelets.

Canadian Blood Services is always in need of new donors. It takes up to five donors for someone undergoing heart surgery, up to 50 donors for a car crash victim and up to 8 donors each week for someone with leukemia.

Littau says it’s nothing for someone to sit down for a little pin prick for half an hour to save someone’s life. She says blood donors gave Dustin a fighting chance and extra 11 weeks with his family.
