Kemptville Creek sitting at 42% normal rainfall

The Kemptville Creek low water status remains at moderate severity. The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority (RVCA) issued the statement Friday. The RVCA says the Kemptville Creek is sitting at less than half the normal rainfall amount in the last 30 days.

The creek has been under a moderate low water warning since August 20. The rest of the Rideau River watershed is at minor low water status.

The RVCA says the overall watershed is at 72 per cent of normal rainfall for this time of year. The Kemptville Creek is at 42 per cent. Flows in the creek are just 1.3 per cent of normal.

The RVCA says aquatic species will be increasingly stressed as available pools shrink, temperatures rise and oxygen concentrations drop.

Water conservation is recommended for all residents within the watershed. The RVCA continues to monitor the situation.
