The Navy League and Sea Cadets of Kemptville are hosting a barbecue. The event is set for Monday at the Pte. Blake Williamson Memorial Hall. The barbecue kicks off at 6:00pm. There is no cost to attend and anyone interested in the cadet core is invited.
President Peter Milsom says the barbecue has two purposes: welcoming back current cadets from summer holidays and getting information out there to kids who are thinking about signing up.
The Navy League is open to kids age 9 to 12 and the Sea Cadets is for youth between the ages of 12 and 18. The program is free thanks to partnerships with the Department of National Defence, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 212 and the Rotary Club of Kemptville.
Milsom says the Navy League and Sea Cadets provide seamanship skills, including drill and tying knots. He says it’s about teaching kids how to be good citizens.
