Municipality handling donations, charitable receipts for outdoor rink project

North Grenville municipal staff will be helping out the Kemptville Outdoor Rink project. A request from Southgate Church, the organization behind the outdoor rink, for the municipality to handle all donations and charitable receipts was passed by council on Monday.

Municipal staff will also be making appropriate payments, using donation dollars, once rink construction begins. Staff time will be the only cost to the municipality.

Southgate made the request to prevent delaying the project. The church would have to wait for approval from the Canadian Revenue Service to issue charitable receipts.

Director of Parks and Recreation Mark Guy says the municipality has been in support of the project since 2015, when the church originally submitted an application to get an Ottawa Senators Foundation rink. Due to changes within the Senators organization, Southgate chose to move forward with the rink project independently and recently applied to get the Canada 150 Rink from Parliament Hill.

One of the stipulations for the Canada 150 Rink is that the rink must be up and running in 2018. Guy says that the recipient of the rink is expected to be announced later this summer or early fall.
