Kayaking for Cancer aims to hit $710,000 this year

Paddlers with a purpose are travelling the Rideau Canal. Kayaking for Cancer passed through Merrickville and made a stop in Burritts Rapids today. The group is raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society. Founder Kevin Dionne says his mother was diagnosed with cancer in 1976.

Since 2001, Kayaking for Cancer has raised an average of $40,000 per year. The group hopes to hit a total of $710,000 after this year’s event. Kayaking for Cancer started in Kingston on August 11 and wraps up on Parliament Hill on Saturday. Dionne says there are a lot of people behind the scenes helping out.

The group spends over 6 hours on the water each day. For more details about Kayaking for Cancer or to donate, click here.
