Michael Barrett lands Conservative Party nomination

The votes are in and Michael Barrett will represent the Conservative Party during the upcoming federal by-election. The Edwardsburgh-Cardinal resident won the party nomination on Saturday.

Five people put their names forward for the nomination: Barrett, Colin Brown, Stephanie Mitton,  Anne Johnston and Henry Oosterhof.

The by-election to fill the vacant MP seat for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes has yet to be called by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The seat has been empty since the death of MP Gord Brown in May.

Barrett is a Councillor for the Township of Edwardsburgh-Cardinal. He says he shares the values of the Conservative Party which stands with families, seniors, farmers and law-abiding gun owners. Barrett was a leading proponent against the creation of a new dump in Edwardsburgh-Cardinal.
