Thailand cave rescue inspires local kids to learn how to scuba dive

The world watched as 12 schoolboys and their coach were rescued from a cave in Thailand. The incident earlier this month inspired two local kids to learn how to scuba dive. Siblings Malina and Tanner Vallee took a five-day course on scuba diving. Malina says the experience was amazing.

The pair, who live in Merrickville, got their certification through Deco Stop Outdoor Centre. They travelled to different dive locations across the Ontario and Quebec border. Malina says the skills they learned are important when you consider incidents like the one in Thailand.

Both Malina and Tanner were surprised by how much garbage they saw underwater. The siblings, aged 15 and 13, hope to put their new skills to good use by helping to clean up bodies of water.
