Council defers zoning amendment after resident raises concerns

North Grenville Council has deferred making a decision on a zoning amendment for the eQuinelle development. A public meeting about the amendment was held last night. Settlers’ Grant resident Brett Robertson raised some concerns about privacy, property values and lack of proper notice for the meeting. Robertson asked what was more important: current or future residents?

The zoning amendment was requested for a 7.6 hectare parcel of land, which backs onto Settlers’ Grant, within phase four of eQuinelle. The draft subdivision includes 87 single detached houses and 12 townhouses. The developer is seeking a change in zoning for the lands from rural-residential to residential third density. North Grenville CAO Brian CarrĂ© says staff followed protocol when it came to the recommendation for the amendment.

Deputy Mayor Barb Tobin asked for the motion to be deferred until staff could verify whether proper notice of the public meeting had gone out to all the surrounding residents. The matter will be brought back to council at a later date.
