Summer Company Program helps local student launch business

Callum Cairns has started a woodworking business thanks to a grant from the Summer Company Program. The 16-year-old North Grenville District High School student heard about the program through a friend. The Leeds Grenville Small Business Enterprise runs the program, which gives money to local students to cover start-up costs. Cairns used the $1,500 grant to buy tools and wood. He says he is making benches and coffee tables this summer.

The cost is $100 for a bench or coffee table. He has sold five benches already and has six more orders on the go. Cairns said his love of woodworking came from his grandfather.

His business is called Dove Designs Custom Wood Creations. For more details, contact Cairns directly by emailing [email protected] or calling 613-806-5203. The Summer Company Program is open to students across Leeds and Grenville. For more information about the program, click here.
