Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect

Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the Kemptville area.

While the organisation continues with a Special Weather Statement regarding the heat and humidity, it has now issued the watch because it says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that are capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain.

Environment Canada says that a cold front will move through Eastern Ontario triggering numerous thunderstorms across the region.

It says we could see wind gusts of up to 100km/h and the possibility of downpours of 25 to 50 millimetres of rain in under an hour.

Environment Canada says that these winds can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings and break branches off trees. It also says that severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes.

You’re being reminded to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada during the watch.
