Canada Day in Merrickville to feature local bands, free food

Merrickville is gearing up for its annual Canada Day celebrations. Events kick off in the morning on July 1. Organizer Robyn Griff says a special church service will be held.

Collar Hill Cemetery is where the Merrick family is interred. The Canada Day Parade starts at 11:30am, leaving from Hilltop Manor and ending at the Blockhouse. Local musicians, along with jazz band 45north, will be playing in the park from 1:00 to 5:30pm. Griff says local service groups are pitching in.

Sons of Martha, a local band, will be putting on a rock infused opera at the Merrickville Fairgrounds beginning at 8:30pm. Fireworks will follow at 10:00pm. For more details, check out the Canada Day day events Facebook page.
