Crowdfunding campaign underway to help family displaced by Monday’s house fire

A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for a local family displaced by a house fire. The Helem family is couch surfing following Monday’s fire that left their home on Johnston Road inhabitable. The family of five – two adults and three kids – are staying with family currently. The home insurance will cover the cost of repairing or rebuilding the house but not the family’s accommodations in the interim. Crowdfunding Campaign Organizer Bryonie Baxter says they need help.

The North Grenville Fire Service was able to put the fire out quickly, but there is extensive smoke and water damage throughout the house. Baxter says the family made it out with barely more than the clothes on their backs.

The goal is to raise $10,000 so the family can rent a place until their home is fixed. The campaign has brought in $250 so far. To donate, click here.
