Friends of the Merrickville Turbine are celebrating funding that will help them to complete the refurbishment of this important industrial artefact. Leeds Grenville MPP Steve Clark was in town recently to announce a grant of $14,300 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The turbine-generator that is on display is one of two outdated units that was replaced in 1993 in the small power station next to the Merrickville Industrial Heritage Site. The unit provided electricity to the Village since 1915. The Merrickville power station was the second in the immediate vicinity using the flow of the waters of the Rideau River.
