Polling stations open across riding

Time to vote. Polling stations across Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes are open until 9:00pm tonight. Elections Ontario is instructing people to check their Voter Information Cards to find the location of their polling stations.

If you did not receive a Voter Information Card in the mail, you can find your polling station by clicking here.

There are a total of 70 polling stations across the riding. There are three polling stations in Kemptville, at North Grenville District High School, Kemptville Pentecostal Church, and St. John’s United Church. The polling station in Oxford Mills is located at Oxford-On-Rideau Public School. There is also a polling station at the Burritts Rapids Community Centre.

The number of eligible voters in Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes is not known, according to the Returning Office. A representative explained many calls were received this year from people who turned 18 and wanted to register to vote.

Elections Ontario has introduced new technology in the polls this year. About 50 per cent of polling stations will have vote tabulators and e-Poll books serving 90 per cent of electors.

Election officials will use e-Poll books to strike voters’ names from the voters list before giving them a ballot.

The number of electoral districts in Ontario has increased from 107 to 124. Canadian citizens who reside in Ontario, and are at least 18 years of age, are eligible to vote.
