Merrickville Historical Society to host fourth speaker in series of talks

Laurie Carter will be the next speaker in a series of talks hosted by the Merrickville and District Historical Society. The presentation is set for Sunday, June 17, beginning at 2:00pm. The talk will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Merrickville.

The local author / photographer followed the trail of Pacific Coast artist Emily Carr and penned two books.

Carr’s modernist style captured a disappearing way of life. In 1898, the Nuu-chah-nulth people gave Carr the name Klee Wyck, meaning ‘Laughing One.’ The reason for the name will be revealed by Carter during the presentation.

This is the fourth of 15 presentations organized by the Historical Society to help commemorate the 225th anniversary of Merrickville-Wolford. The official season opening of the Blockhouse Museum on June 23  will feature the repatriation of an 1890s uniform to the Voltigeurs de Quebec Regiment based in Quebec City.
