Bike to School Week encourages kids to be healthy

Getting outside and enjoying nature is what Bike to School Week is all about. The event kicks off in North Grenville on Monday. The province wide initiative focuses on promoting healthy lifestyle choices for kids. The municipality is promoting Bike to School Week, along with Bike Month, through social media. Trails Promotion Coordinator Raquel Corkery says guides were given out to local schools.

Bike Month runs throughout June. The municipality hopes people participating in Bike to School Week will provide feedback for the Transportation Master Plan. An online survey is available at northgrenville.ca until June 1. Corkery says bike safety is key.

There are currently about 50 kilometers of marked trails in North Grenville for public use and many other unmarked trails. Municipal staff will be at the Kemptville Farmers’ Market on June 3 promoting Bike Month. They will have a smoothie bike borrowed from the Health Unit and people are welcome to hop on and give it a try. The Lets GLOW Biking event on June 8 is another way the municipality is promoting biking. The free event is open to kids age 12 to 18.
