Women in Trades event at Kemptville Campus promotes horticultural diversity

Landscaping is more than just pretty plants. That was the message at the Women in Trades event held today at the Kemptville Campus. High school students from across the Upper Canada District School Board and Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario took part in the event. It was put on through a partnership between the two boards and Landscape Ontario. Director Sally Harvey says the purpose is to raise awareness.

The pilot project was designed by Nigel Carlisle when he was studying to be a teacher at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay. The Women in Trades event was the first run for the new program, which aims to address the workforce shortage in landscaping. Harvey says there is more to landscaping than people realize.
