OPP collects 700 guns across region through amnesty campaign

The OPP have released the results from its gun amnesty campaign.

During April police officers with the OPP and municipal detachments collected unwanted firearms from the public. East Region Acting-Sergeant Tina Hunt says they took in a wide range of weapons.

According to Hunt the OPP brought in almost 700 items and over 12 thousand pieces of ammunition. Hunt says different guns have different fates.

The OPP say there were also over 1,500 weapons surrendered outside of their jurisdiction. The Brockville Police Department say it took in four handguns and nine long guns during the campaign.
