UPDATE: Severe Thunderstorm Watch Ended

Update: The severe thunderstorm watch has ended.

Update: Environment Canada has upgraded the wind warning to a severe thunderstorm watch.

The agency says conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that can produce damaging wind gusts. That’s expected to pass through as a cold front late this afternoon or early this evening.

Environment Canada says wind gusts could be up to 110 km/h in some areas.

It says strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Severe thunderstorms can also produce tornadoes.

Environment Canada says Severe Thunderstorm Watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that can produce large hail, damaging winds or torrential rainfall.

Original Story:

A wind warning has been issued for Kemptville.

Environment Canada says strong winds are expected in the area at up to 90 km/h as a cold front moves through the region later this afternoon or this evening. The agency also says winds will also die down late in the evening as a high pressure ridge moves in.

Environment Canada says damage to buildings, such as roof shingles and windows could occur. It says loose objects could be tossed by the wind and cause damage or injuries. Environment Canada also warns that tree branches can break under windy conditions. It says wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.
