Ride the Rideau is meant to improve lives by raising important funds for cancer research. The event that brings cyclists along the Rideau River from Ottawa to Kemptville and back came to an abrupt end Saturday, when one of the participants was struck and killed by a dump truck. Buses were brought in to ferry the rest of the riders home, many of them in a state of shock. Today police are still investigating the cause of the crash that took the life of a 40-year-old woman. This year’s Ride the Rideau event broke a new record, raising over $2,300,000 for cancer research.
