GoFundMe campaign raises over $8,000 for local woman battling cancer

Winchester resident Julie Gaumond did not have time to mourn her own mother. Just five short days after her mom passed away from cancer, Gaumond was diagnosed with the disease herself. She noticed some bloating and decided to visit the doctor in February. The news came as a shock to Gaumond and her family – she is 48.

Gaumond’s husband, Paul Allan, works at the Kemptville District Hospital. One of his colleagues – Krissy Poulton – started a GoFundMe campaign for the family to help cover expenses. Allan says the family was honoured by the gesture.

The two other colleagues are Tammy Laforest and Wanda Frawley. The GoFundMe campaign started in March and has brought in $8,450 to date. The goal is $15,000. The funds will help cover costs like travel and drugs. Allan says some of the drugs are not covered and very costly.

Gaumond is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments. To donate or share the page on Facebook, visit gofundme.com/julie-gaumond.
