MPP Steve Clark disappointed in Long-Term Energy Plan

The Leeds Grenville MPP says the province’s 2017 Long-Term Energy Plan is disappointing for Ontarians.

The plan was released on Thursday, and the province says it includes initiatives to keep energy affordable. This follows the introduction of the Fair Hydro Plan, which the province says has reduced the average residential electricity bill by 25 per cent. The province says rates will rise gradually over time, but the plan is meant to avoid any sharp increases.

But, MPP Steve Clark says Ontarians can expect to see their electricity bills go up after the next election because of the Fair Hydro Plan.

The plan sets out that the average monthly electricity bill this year is $127, which will go up to $181 in 2027. The plan states that by the year 2030, the average electricity bill is expected to even out to about $200 a month.
