A Smiths Falls man made the choice to buy a different lottery ticket, and that choice paid off big time.
Barry Bernicky says he usually buys 6/49 tickets, but instead picked up a Lottomax ticket in late September and ended up winning $144,713 as a result.
Bernicky says he checked the ticket during his lunch break several times to make sure that it was a winner, and after work brought his wife to the store to scan the ticket herself.
He says he plans on using the nearly $145,000 to upgrade his home and buy a hot tub, as well as maybe take a family trip.
