Fire Prevention Week Wrap-Up

Last week was Fire Prevention week and North Grenville Fire Service hit the streets with the message “every second counts”.

That was the theme of this year’s campaign and firefighters were reminding the public to practice their home escape plans. Fire Prevention Officer Sharon Armitage said fire services didn’t have to respond to a single fire over the course of the week. She reminds the public they should practice their home escape plan twice a year, with every member of their family.

For a third straight year firefighters with North Grenville Fire Services went door to door offering smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector checks, while educating homeowners about home escape planning. 110 homes were visited and according to Armitage dozens of detectors that had not been working were fixed.

North Grenville Fire Services want to remind the public that in a fire you only have 1 to 2 minutes to get out, and every second counts.
