Fire Chief: a check-list to keep your summer cottage safe from fire

This summer, remember to check the safety of your home-away-from-home. North Grenville Fire Chief Paul Hutt says it’s important to keep your cottage smoke alarms operational – test them and change the batteries every season. Also, ensure any flammable liquids are stored outside the building, away from living areas. Check your wiring to ensure rodents haven’t been nibbling away at them in your absence. Finally, practice a home escape plan and make sure you have access to two safe exits from your vacation home.
