North Grenville Old Timers upset over change in traditional hockey schedule

Some local hockey enthusiasts are up in arms over a change in their game time. The North Grenville Old Timers’ Hockey League is circulating a petition to retain the Sunday 8pm ice time that they have held for years. They say the move to Tuesday at 10pm will force some of their players to drop out. In an interview with STAR 975, Director of Parks and Recreation Mark Guy said they are only trying to accommodate extra requests for ice time from youth groups. They cannot book ice for youth after 9pm, so some changes had to be made and some people had to be shifted around. Guy adds there is no grandfather clause in the scheduling, they can’t guarantee the time slot a team may prefer, and although some of the ice requests are from teams outside North Grenville, they are another sign of a growing community.
