Leeds Grenville MP Gord Brown sent out a press release Monday with an update on the action plan against Lyme Disease. Brown says the federal government has launched a Lyme disease awareness campaign; enhanced surveillance and field studies; and increased support for research and prevention efforts. $4.5 million dollars has been invested in research on Lyme disease since 2006. Bill C-442, currently in the House of Commons, will further those studies. . Reported Lyme disease cases in Canada have increased from 30 in 2003 to over 300 in 2012, and these numbers are expected to rise even further as ticks responsible for Lyme disease move in to Canada s most densely populated areas.
