Ottawa Police Officers who work at the Ottawa International Airport will now be able to carry carbine rifles.
The Ottawa Police Service announced the new measure in a press release earlier today.
The Ottawa Police Service says the carbine rifle program has been active in the service since 2006. The release says that it’s a preventative and proactive measure, not a response to any intelligence or threat.
Ottawa Airport Authority President and CEO Mark Laroche says the authority wants to ensure the highest degree of safety and security for all airport users. That includes the deployment of the Ottawa Police Services carbines.
