Hwy 401 Remains Closed After Multi-Vehicle Collision & Chemical Spill

Highway 401 in Mallorytown remains closed after a multi-vehicle pile up and chemical spill that has claimed the life of one man.

Yesterday around 2:00pm the OPP responded to two separate collisions on the 401. Five tractor trailers and one car were involved in the first, followed by seven tractor trailers and three cars in the second. The driver of one of the transports in the first collision died of his injuries.

One of the transports in the pile up was leaking a hazardous chemical which was confirmed by Kingston General Hospital as fluorosilic acid.

Leeds County OPP reports a total of 27 people were treated for exposure to the substance.

Highway 401 remains closed in both directions between Mallorytown Road and Reynolds Road in Lansdowne.
