North Grenville Council expenses were five point eight percent over budget last year.
Part of the reason for the extra spending came down to a change in accounting practices. Membership costs for the Association of Municipalities of Ontario used to fall under a different budget line item. That item was moved to council expenses, but only after the 2016 budget had already been announced. That item of $4,725 accounts for 63 percent of the extra spending over budget.
Increases in travel costs and legal fees also played a part in the cost overruns.
